How do you set the age groups for a Road Race and how to import entries from a csv file for a road race?  Thanks

Can someone advise me on how to setup multiple computers for sharing this database, which may allow for one-the-fly registration?  Looking to try Racetab with 700 youth runners without requiring pre-registration.  thx

Comment by Jasen Parks on April 21, 2012 at 11:05am

Wow 700 with no pre registration, that to me is crazy. But I don't see why it can't be done.

You will need to set up a network for all your computers (not my expertise). Once all computers are on the network. Set up the meet and set the racetab meet file to share (read and write) with all.

then have all the others use that one file (open from). Then when your clerk enters a new kid it will show for everyone.

Just make sure your clerk doesn't someone new to an event after the timer has seeded it.

Setting up  two or more computers on a netword  is not as bad as it seems. Here is what I do.

Wireless N router

I made sure each of my computers are assigned a different name. I use to make a mistake of naming all my computers the same thing. This made it hard to know which computer is which on a network..

I also use IP reservation in the router settings to make sure each time the computer is plugged in from meet to meet  there is no IP misconfiguration.

Next thing would be to make sure file and printer sharing is enabled on your computer

Next make sure each folder for the meets  are sharable. ( Right click folder, properties, click sharing tab, share this folder on the network, allow networked users to change files, click apply,  click ok... This will also need to be done to any new meet folder you make in the future.

Now you should be able to browse the network for the folder name, should be able to open racetab  on the computers on the network with no issue.

As mentioned before make sure  Clerk does not make changes once the event is seeded due to  names not matching with correct runners.

Hope this helps... THis was my set up on windows XP Pro

could this network sharing be done via dropbox?  also, when sharing the file (.rtql i assume), will the results still upload to if the meet has been downloaded from the parent network, and we're sharing that file between multiple computers?

Comment by T Penman on May 4, 2012 at 12:21am

never mind.  doesn't look like dropbox works, and i figured out how to directly network the computers.

Comment by Jason Byrne on May 4, 2012 at 4:30pm

Yeah dropbox will not work... it doesn't sync live, there is a delay. What you want is to be networked so both are working against the same exact file.

Also the meet file is a .rtab file... not .rtql. RTQL is a format to import/export data into a RaceTab database (the rtab file).

I have 3 questions concerning Racetab 3.053.  How do I show the tie breakers for high jump.  If 3 people have cleared 6-2 and they all have a different number of misses at the previous height how do I indicate that in the results?  So far t only shows them all as splitting the points.  How do I get the discus and the javelin to be recorded to the partial inch measurements such as 105-06.25.  Currently it rounds down.  If I am running prelims/semis/finals in a running event how do I get the all rounds to show up in the results report?  I can only get the semis and finals to show up in the complete results report.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!  I have to score my team's league meet in 10 days and I want to make sure that there are no glitches.  Also I have tried some of the newer versions on Racetab and I feel more comfortable with this version.

Question, Beginning to use RaceTab and working great, we also use Finish Lynx with a network connection.  Not 100% sure on how to hook of the two computers and how the system works when it comes getting data from Racetab to Lynx and back!  Can anyone help.  I have the latest Racetab, and we have run another program successfully in the past.

Here is the best way I set a meet up with racetab and Flashtiming. Create a meet folder on results computer with meet name. right click on it and  share this folder with everybody on the network, then placve the racetab meet file into this folder, next open the racetab meet file in racetab, along top click the drop down arrow to see FAT interface, in the new window select this new folder you made. it will place the files needed to communicate with the  timing system. Next in the timing software  make sure the same folder is selected for meet Management .Hope this helps Kim

How do we print individual heats of events? When the heated events have been saved as a text doc the page breaks between heats do not apply when the document is printed. Also, the document will only print in portrait. We are unable to print in landscape view. Any ideas?

In a invitational track meet, how do I seed the distance events with 21-26 athletes in the same heat?

I'm a high school cross country coach and our team is in charge of timing a local road race for a fundraiser. I'm playing around with racetab in preparation.  There is a combined 5k and 10k using the same finish line and starting at the same time.  When entering in athletes, how to distinguish whether or not that athlete is running the 5k or 10k?  When entering in times, I can only see how that is done by 5k or 10k, but not both at the same time.  Any ideas?  thanks.

Use Classifications... set up one classification for 10k and one for 5k. you can put athletes into the classification. and then you can filter the results by classification

As the meet manager, is there a way to override seeding? For example, we're having our first middle school meet of the year and each team seeded their athletes in different ways (i.e. one did actual times, one did 1, 2, 3, 4, and one didn't do it at all).

You can manually seed all you want. Either drag/drop people around in the seeding window or you can go to "all heats" on the results tab and type in lane and heat numbers

We are using eagle eye video timing. I just finished a race, saved the results to a .lif file. How can I get that file back to racetab? I have tried the import , but I receive an error message that says unhandled exception has occurred.
