Hey there Jason

I was just working with seeding from a heats, semi, final perspective and wanted the rounds to function as per the IAAF rule 166 (page 178 - 181) but it does not appear to be the case?  Are you able to add, fix what is currently there.

IAAF rule book attached

Thanks

If there is something specific that you feel is missing let me know. I wish I did, but I don't have time to parse these rules to determine what you're referring to. I'm not even sure we've ever had a meet use RaceTab in practice with more than two rounds.

Hey there Jason

No probs - understand

Round One - Heats

Is a random draw either based upon seeding or what information has been supplied - so feel this is covered.

Round Two - Semi

Seeding shall be based upon placings and times of each previous round. For this purpose, athletes shall be ranked as follows: Fastest heat winner 2nd fastest heat winner 3rd fastest heat winner, etc. Fastest 2nd place 2nd fastest 2nd place 3rd fastest 2nd place, etc. (Concluding with) Fastest time qualifier 2nd fastest time qualifier 3rd fastest time qualifier, etc

If there is (for example) 3 Semi Finals, the athletes should be put into the semis (its a zig zag scenario and if only two semis, follows the same pattern) as follows:-

A 1 6 7 12 13 18 19 24

B 2 5 8 11 14 17 20 23

C 3 4 9 10 15 16 21 22

and seeded (randomly) by three draws as follows

  1. The four highest ranked athletes or teams randomly drawn in lanes 3, 4, 5 and 6
  2. The fifth and sixth ranked athletes or teams randomly drawn in lanes 7 and 8
  3. The two lowest ranked athletes or teams randomly drawn in lanes 1 and 2.

Round 3 - Final

Seeded (randomly) using the zig zag model by three draws as follows

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

So it looks to me that we can already do most of it. What they call "zigzag" seeding, we call "serpentine" seeding. The only part that we can't do (correct me if i'm wrong) is the random lane assignment among those groups of lanes. Right?

Hey there Jason

I have just completed a test and note that the Serpentine is almost correct, it doesn't quite put it in the order as noted above, but close.

and yes your right about the random lane assignment amongst the groups of lanes, although the final is close.

I have attached my test file and its the womens 100m.  you will note that the fastest under serpentine in the semi finals is in race 2 and the second fastest is in race 1 which should be the other way around and theres a few other quirks from that serpentine perspective.

Also is it possible in the results side of things to put Q and q for qualifiers when the results get printed?

Thanks heaps.

When seeding on a 6 lane track the fastest person should be in lane three .  When I go to see the race that is not the case.  How can I get it to auto seed right?

Lane Preferences are under Edit Preferences

Thank you got it.

I still does not put them in the right lanes.
